What Is an M3U Playlist?
An M3U file is a simple text file that contains a list of media addresses. In IPTV, each line points to a TV channel stream, often with extra information such as channel name, logo and group (for example News, Sports, Movies). Your IPTV player reads this list and shows it as a channel menu.
M3U File vs M3U Link
- M3U file – a file saved on your device (.m3u or .m3u8).
- M3U link (URL) – a web address that loads the playlist from the provider’s server. This is the most common option because the list updates automatically.
M3U vs Xtream Codes
Many providers offer two ways to log in: an M3U link or Xtream Codes API (username, password and server URL). Xtream Codes is usually easier and loads movies, series and the TV guide in separate sections. M3U is supported by almost every player, so it is a good universal option.
